About the real test
What to expect on test day
Wisconsin's Class D permit exam has two parts: a 50-question knowledge test (40 correct to pass) and a separate 15-question highway signs test (12 correct to pass). You can take it free in office, or, if you are 15 to 17, online at home for $10 through KnowTo Drive, where you get 90 minutes for the knowledge test and 30 for signs. The in-office test is offered in English, Spanish, Hmong, American Sign Language and several other languages. You can get an instruction permit from 15 if you are enrolled in driver education; it costs $35. If you fail, you can retest the next day at the earliest, up to five attempts a year.
Every question here is written from the official Wisconsin Motorists' Handbook and shows the page it comes from. The full mock exam scores both parts separately, just like the real test.
