Rules to remember9 key traffic and pedestrian signals rulesShow the rules
- Nevada allows a left turn on red only from a one-way street onto a one-way street with traffic moving left, after signaling, stopping and yielding. (p. 30)
- A red arrow means you cannot make the movement it shows; stop unless another signal allows a different movement. (p. 30)
- A flashing yellow arrow means you may turn, but you must first yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. (p. 30)
- A flashing yellow light means you may proceed with caution. (p. 30)
- A green arrow protects your turn from other traffic, but you must still yield to pedestrians, bicycles and traffic already in the intersection. (p. 30)
- Unless a sign prohibits it, you may turn right on red after a complete stop, signaling and waiting until traffic and pedestrians are clear. (p. 30)
- A flashing Don't Walk or hand with a countdown timer means pedestrians may start across but must finish before the countdown reaches zero. (p. 31)
- When the WALK or walking-person signal is lit, pedestrians crossing with it must be given the right-of-way by all drivers. (p. 31)
- Most pedestrian fatalities occur between intersections (mid-block), so watch for people crossing away from corners. (p. 31)
