About the real test

What to expect on test day

In Louisiana you can get a learner's permit at 15, after first holding a Temporary Instructional Permit, which is available from 14 through driver education. The knowledge test has 40 multiple-choice questions and you need 80% (32 correct) to pass; one test covers signs, signals, safe driving and traffic laws. It is given by driver education providers and third-party testers, and on a computer in most OMV offices. The test is in English, and you may bring a translator for the non-CDL knowledge test. The learner's permit costs $20.25 plus a $12 handling fee.

Every question here is written from the official Louisiana Class D and E Driver's Guide and shows the page it comes from. The practice exam matches the real format: 40 questions, 32 to pass.
