About the real test

What to expect on test day

In Hawaii you can get a learner's permit at 15½, and driver licensing is run by the counties. The knowledge test is taken online at home with a webcam or in person at a driver licensing center. The Honolulu and Hawaii County pages describe a 30-question test with 60 minutes, and you need 80% (24 correct) to pass; a statewide HDOT announcement mentions 25 questions, so check with your county. The test is offered in 14 languages, including English, Hawaiian, Spanish, Japanese and Tagalog. In Honolulu the permit costs $5.

Every question here is written from the official Hawaii Driver's Manual and shows the page it comes from. The practice exam follows the 30-question county format: 30 questions, 24 to pass.
